Minimizing the effects of bad food combinations
While it's best to avoid the incompatible food combinations most of the time, there will undoubtedly be occasions when you are tempted to break the rules and that's okay.
Ayurveda is all about balance and Ayurveda offers a few solutions to lessen the negative effects caused by consumption of incompatible foods
1. Stimulate your Agni
The stronger the Agni is the better we are able to digest any food combination. So make your Agni is strong. How this can be done? Chew a slice of fresh ginger with a pinch of salt half an hour before meals. This will help in stimulating the digestive fire and hence will help in easier digestion of the food.
Cook your meals in ghee. Ghee stimulates Agni and improves the digestion so include at least two tablespoons of ghee in a day in your meals.
A small amount of poorly combined foods will not have as large an impact on your system as a large amount of the same. So make sure even if you are eating the poorly combined food or the wrong combination of food, it should be in a small quantity.
This will aid your digestion. Avoid ice water or carbonated drinks along with meals. Cold water and cold drinks will make the digestive fire weak and the food will not be digested properly. Instead you should include warm water with your meal. This warm water will increase the digestive fire leading to fast and proper digestion of food.
Take herbal tea after meals which can soothe the stomach. You can make tea as per your dosha predominance and consume it around half an hour after eating food. The herbal tea has the properties of kindling the digestive fire leading to the proper digestion of food
Following the simple tips will help you in overcoming the effects of incompatible food intake to some extent. However it's always recommended to avoid the wrong food combinations.
