Turmeric- The Golden Herb in Ayurveda Properties, benefits

Turmeric (Curcuma longa)

Ayurveda’s “golden girl,” turmeric is best known for its ability to soothe and support comfortable joint movement.

However, it also supports liver detoxification, boosts the immune system, and improves Agni.

While it has a heating quality, turmeric is also bitter and astringent, which are good for pitta.

Turmeric is used in Ayurveda to balance all three doshas—vata, pitta, and kapha.

Turmeric has a bitter taste (rasa), an astringent energetic effect (virya),
its post-digestive effect (vipaka) is pungent and heating.

Turmeric has a particularly beneficial effect for rasa dhatu and rakta dhatu, the tissues of the blood, plasma, and lymph.

It brings a soothing and cooling quality to these tissues while at the same time enlivening their healthy flow and function.

Turmeric’s heating nature enables it to have a mobilizing and cleansing energy, which naturally kindles agni (digestion), helping to reduce excess kapha and any accumulation of ama (toxicity).

Turmeric is wonderful in curry mixes for lentils, rice, and potatoes, and it makes your food a lovely golden-yellow color.

Turmeric is the one of the most revered spices in Ayurveda.

It is a powerful cleanser of the liver and has gained a lot of popularity in the last few years.

Some of the many benefits of turmeric include decreasing pathogenic bacteria found in the intestines, calming inflammation, reducing undigested food in the gastrointestinal tract, treating stomach ulcers, colds, and reducing the risk of bowel cancer.

Turmeric is one of the best anti-inflammatory agents and can be used for most people.

Turmeric has been shown to regenerate and protect the cells of the nervous system, relieving anxiousness, uplifting mood, and improving brain health.

Turmeric supports comfortable joint movement. It can be taken internally or applied externally to strengthen and fortify the joints, tendons, and ligaments, leading to greater joint comfort and easeful movement.

As a potent source of antioxidants, turmeric helps to strengthen the immune system, protect the body from free radicals, and ward off imbalance.

Considered a tonic for the skin and blood, turmeric helps to cleanse impurities and support a clear complexion.

It helps to warm and stimulate the growth of new blood tissue, aiding healthy function of the heart and strengthening circulation.
